Maintaining personal and social connections are crucial to elevating a senior’s happiness and their mental health. When they are included in spaces that allow them to engage in meaningful conversations, relish old memories and create new ones, it significantly increases their outlook on life. Furthermore, when seniors feel well taken care of by their family, they feel needed and loved by them.

Singapore is implementing elderly-friendly transport facilities to ensure their mobility around town is not hindered. Though existing implementations in public transports like reserved seats and wheelchair locks are implemented for the senior and special needs society, there are more that we have yet to find out. In Singapore, seniors find happiness through social contributions, inclusivity, healthy lifestyles, and improved accessibility to communal spaces. We can do more to ensure that our seniors are happy and content while feeling included in our Singapore.
Growing Needs grew out of our own encounters with caring for our aging parents and reflecting on the Growing Needs that we ourselves would face as we advance in years. We hope to build a community that will learn, share and contribute towards caring for the growing needs of our loved ones.
