By 2050, nearly 2.5 billion people are projected to have some degree of hearing loss, and at least 700 million will require hearing rehabilitation. The prevalence of hearing loss increases with age, among those older than 60 years, over 25% are affected by disabling hearing loss. There are varying degrees of hearing loss ranging from mild to severe and depending on one’s condition, the doctor would prescribe different types of hearing aids.
Many reasons – as one ages, one is more likely to suffer from chronic diseases, age related degeneration which all could lead to hearing impairment. Also, the environment we live in also affects us – loud noises, trauma to the ear and the head could lead to the early onset of hearing loss.
It is important that one seeks timely medical advice and help if it is suspected that hearing is impaired. If left unattended to, the hearing impairment could lead to hearing loss which impacts day to day activities. Thankfully, the advent of hearing technologies such as the likes of hearing aids, cochlear implants and middle ear implants comes in to help those with hearing loss manage the diagnosis. Here, we will talk about where to find hearing aids in Singapore and the available subsidies that one can get.
Prices start from SGD $2,500 onwards with unlimited complimentary aftercare.
The price of hearing aids at Hearing Partners ranges from $1,620 to $8,502 per piece (includes GST), depending on the brand, model and features.
Prices start at $1,620 per piece for the battery operated option
Hearing aid pricing varies depending on the style, type and most importantly, technology. The price of a single hearing aid ranges from $800 to $6000+ per ear. This price includes the cost of hearing examination, the consultation, and fitting and post-fitting adjustments. Device warranty can range from one to three years.
Whilst MediSave cannot be used for purchasing hearing aids, there are still subsidy schemes available to ease the financial burden of purchasing hearing aids. There are 2 main subsidies available in Singapore that help to make hearing aids more affordable for those with hearing loss. They are the Seniors’ Mobility and Enabling Fund (SMF) and the Assistive Technology Fund (ATF).
The Assistive Technology Fund (ATF) is a scheme that helps individuals with disabilities lead their lives more independently by providing subsidies on the cost of assistive technology devices like hearing aids.
The Seniors’ Mobility and Enabling Fund (SMF) provides holistic support for seniors to age in place within the community by extending subsidies to Singaporean seniors requiring mobility and assistive devices for daily independent living and to remain ambulant in the community. This includes hearing aids where one can apply for here. Seniors can obtain subsidies of up to 90% of the cost of the hearing aid to better help one go about Activities of Daily Living (ADL).
