As caregivers, one might get lost easily in the hustle bustle of daily caregiving duties – both mental and physical health might then take a back seat. We know that this caregiving journey is no easy feat and is one that might potentially alter the dynamics between caregivers and the care recipient.
One of the ways that caregivers can self-help is to explore courses and workshops that are targeted towards caregivers, supporting caregivers in their caregiving journey. These workshops and programs are beneficial in the sense that they impart techniques and tips to how to ace being a caregiver, ensuring that caregivers would be able to create a comfortable environment for themselves and the caregiver, whilst also putting oneself first.
To support caregivers, the Caregivers Training Grant is a $200 annual training grant that caregivers can use to offset the costs of approved courses, such as day-to-day care, behaviour management, and functional skills development in areas like stroke management and bowel care and catheter management.
Here, we shortlist some upcoming courses and workshops that are catered towards supporting caregivers in their journey:
Caregiver Mastery is a uniquely curated empowerment initiative for caregivers of persons with mild cognitive impairment or dementia. Over monthly sessions, caregivers come together to share, grow and bond with themselves and others through a variety of practices such as mindfulness and creative initiatives such as art, music and nature-inspired engagements.
As the caregivers progress from empowerment to mastery, further growth opportunities are provided for them to take on co-facilitator or mentor roles; eventually building a space for caregivers, by caregivers.
Details
This yoga session is designed for caregivers – Hatha yoga for beginners focuses on gentle postures, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques to improve flexibility, balance, and mindfulness. Participants are to bring along their own yoga mat, water bottle and towel. If you have any previous or current injuries, kindly seek medical advice to ensure this activity is suitable for you.

Dementia Singapore offers monthly caregiver support sessions. On 5 April 2025, is the ‘Coping with Caregiver Grief / Stress’ session, followed by ‘Understanding Nursing Home’ on 12 April 2025 via Zoom. Additional sessions include ‘Managing Incontinence in Dementia’ on 24 May 2025 and ‘Dental Care for Persons Living with Dementia’ on 14 June 2025.
SG Assist offers various workshops tailored for caregivers. Courses are all free of charge for those who qualify based on the criteria set by partners, including being below the age of 30 or above the age of 50, depending on the objectives of the course.
This 2-day course equips participants with the basic knowledge and skills of delivering proper care for the elderly. It provides hands-on practice on assisting the elderly in their Activities of Daily Living (ADL) such as personal care in hygiene, mobility, eating and toileting, which includes lifting and transferring, use of mobility aids, tube feeding, catheter care, measure and record vital signs and simple wound dressing, as well as effective communication techniques. These skills will prepare family caregivers to care for the elderly as well as those who intend to work in the ILTC sector or do voluntary community care work.Details
The workshop provides an in-depth overview of APSN Learning Hub’s “Safety for All” policy, highlighting its core principles and how it ensures the safety and well-being of both caregivers and beneficiaries.Participants will explore strategies to develop person-centric responses that prioritise well-being of caregivers while effectively supporting their loves ones. These strategies will better equip caregivers to handle challenges and create a more supportive environment.Details

Additionally, ensure that the courses align with your caregiving needs and consider utilizing available subsidies like the CTG to reduce costs.Whilst it is important to care for loved ones, caregivers need to prioritise themselves and seek timely help if needed. It is totally okay to reach out for help or leverage on the many resources and community support available out there for caregivers.
Growing Needs grew out of our own encounters with caring for our aging parents and reflecting on the Growing Needs that we ourselves would face as we advance in years. We hope to build a community that will learn, share and contribute towards caring for the growing needs of our loved ones.
