Courses And Workshops To Support Caregivers

As caregivers, one might get lost easily in the hustle bustle of daily caregiving duties – both mental and physical health might then take a back seat. We know that this caregiving journey is no easy feat and is one that might potentially alter the dynamics between caregivers and the care recipient.

One of the ways that caregivers can self-help is to explore courses and workshops that are targeted towards caregivers, supporting caregivers in their caregiving journey. These workshops and programs are beneficial in the sense that they impart techniques and tips to how to ace being a caregiver, ensuring that caregivers would be able to create a comfortable environment for themselves and the caregiver, whilst also putting oneself first.

Expect a unique session led by Deaf individuals and those in mental health recovery, combining tea and sign language to foster empathy and emotional well-being.

Many caregivers are often overwhelmed by their caregiving duties, so it is important that they have their own hobbies and find time to unwind. 

In this basic yoga workshop, learn some breathing techniques and have a good stretch to relieve stress. This workshop provides an avenue for respite, allowing caregivers to nurture a new interest, learn self-care skills, and connect with other caregivers.

Managing Challenging Behaviours of Family Members and Persons who Cause Harm 190 Clemenceau Avenue

The course is designed for Nursing Home professionals (and caregivers) who need to attend to potentially aggressive family members and persons who cause harm, in the context of vulnerable adult protection. 

Learners will learn frameworks and strategies to prepare themselves for engaging potentially aggressive individuals, as well as de-escalate them. Learners will also learn about the importance of self-care and strategies to self-care in the management of challenging behaviours.

What is Palliative Care and why does it concern me? How do I start a conversation with my loved ones about end-of-life matters?

These questions and more will be answered in Palliative Care 101, a two-hour course organised by the Singapore Hospice Council (SHC) for those curious about palliative care, end-of-life care matters and the relevant community resources available to support patients with life-limiting illnesses and their family in Singapore. 

This course is free of charge.

To be arranged with provider Stroke Caregiving Training To be arranged with provider This course aims to provide participants with the understanding of stroke conditions and to equip them with the relevant practical skills involved in providing care for someone with a stroke.

29/09/2024 Skills to Manage Chronically ill Patients Multiple dates This course aims to equip caregivers with crucial knowledge and skills to support chronically ill patients effectively, focusing on understanding the disease, managing symptoms, and prioritising caregiver well-being.

 

Conclusion

Whilst it is important to care for loved ones, caregivers need to prioritise themselves and seek timely help if needed. It is totally okay to reach out for help or leverage on the many resources and community support available out there for caregivers.
