SG60 – More than a commemoration. As Singapore celebrates 60 years of independence, we look back to the hard work that our forefathers put in to build the Singapore we live in today. This anniversary serves as a timely reminder of the resilience, wisdom, and contributions of older Singaporeans, highlighting the crucial role caregivers play in supporting their well-being.
For caregivers and seniors alike, this milestone is an opportune time to honour the past and celebrate the present, and what better way than to do it across the generations. Through a range of meaningful and inclusive activities, it is a good opportunity for seniors, caregivers and the younger generation to congregate and collectively partake in SG60 festivities.
Here are some ways one can partake in a variety of initiatives, resources, and events designed to promote healthy aging and intergenerational bonding. In this article, we explore meaningful activities that the whole family – seniors and caregivers alike can enjoy together.
In addition to meaningful family activities, remember to make use of the SG60 vouchers, available for all Singaporean adults aged 21 and above. As Singapore celebrates its 60 years of nation-building, the SG60 vouchers are a way to honour the contributions each citizen has made to Singapore’s journey and achievements.
All adult Singaporeans aged between 21 and 59 in 2025 will receive $600 SG60 Vouchers, while Singaporeans aged 60 and above in 2025 will receive $800, in appreciation of their long-standing contributions to Singapore’s growth and success.
Assistance is available for seniors and those who need help to claim the digital vouchers. Help will be readily available at Community Centres/Clubs (CCs) and SG Digital Community Hubs.
As we honour the past, celebrate the present, we want to build a more connected future together. Amidst the SG60 festivities, this milestone is more than just a celebration of Singapore’s progress, it’s a tribute to the seniors who built this nation and those who care for them every day.
In honouring both, we also reaffirm our collective commitment to building an inclusive, caring society, one where every generation is valued, supported, and connected. Whether it’s through shared activities, national initiatives, or simple everyday moments, SG60 reminds us that the spirit of togetherness is what truly strengthens our nation.
Even after National Day, we as a society should continuously strive towards being more caring, inclusive as we look towards building a healthier and more united Singapore.
Growing Needs grew out of our own encounters with caring for our aging parents and reflecting on the Growing Needs that we ourselves would face as we advance in years. We hope to build a community that will learn, share and contribute towards caring for the growing needs of our loved ones.
