Self-love is a growing concern amongst the younger generation in society. However it is an essential aspect of emotional well-being for people of all ages, including seniors. As we age, it is vital to treat ourselves with care and learn how to nurture self-love. However it is scientifically proven that the act of performing positive self-talk can significantly boost self-love. Though it may be challenging at first, seniors should challenge negative self-perceptions by using positive affirmations. The daily mental and physical challenges that they face are undeniably stressful to them. Encouraging seniors to pursue their passions and interests can help them develop self-love. By taking up something new that they may have wanted to try in their past, whether it’s learning a new instrument, gardening or painting, it allows them to learn more about themselves and create a safe space for them. Seniors should maintain and build relationships with friends and family. Recently we wrote about how seniors are experiencing loneliness as our society is shifting to a digital economy. By joining their local community center’s activities, Seniors opens up opportunities to meet like-minded individuals and build a sense of belonging.
