In this article, we will explore some of the best food haunts in Singapore specifically tailored to meet the requirements of our esteemed senior citizens. Whether seeking nutritious meals with dietary restrictions or simply looking for a warm and inviting atmosphere to enjoy their meals, these establishments aim to provide an exceptional dining experience for seniors across the island. Some dining suggestions are made below, based on nostalgia that may appeal to seniors who crave hearty and good old-fashioned meals.

Hua Yu Wee Seafood Restaurant

Hua Yu Wee, the last standing seafood restaurant on Upper East Coast Road, is acknowledged on the Bedok Heritage Trail for its longevity and operation from a historic 1920s bungalow. The bungalow boasts separate double-story wings, verandas, balcony decks, halls, and steps leading to the former beachfront. Alongside the regular seafood options, the menu offers a range of poultry, red meat, and leafy vegetable options.

Lai Wah Restaurant

According to the Lai Wah website, Yu Sheng has been served at the restaurant since around 1963, possibly from another location. The website also mentions that the sauce associated with chili crab was created by the Four Heavenly Kings of Chinese restaurants managed by Lai Wah. Lai Wah Restaurant is situated on the ground floor of Block 44 Bendemeer Road and has a nostalgic ambiance reminiscent of memorable old Chinese restaurants.

Spring Court

Spring Court Restaurant is recognized as the oldest family-run restaurant in Singapore. Having been established in 1929 by Wing Choon Yuen at Great World Amusement Park, it holds a significant place among the oldest restaurants in Singapore. Despite its rich history and current location on Upper Cross Street, the Chinese restaurant’s interior has a distinctive modern design. The signature dish is their legendary popiah, which many proclaim to be the best tasting in Singapore.

Westlake

Westlake, a famous eatery on Farrer Road, has delighted Holland, Buona Vista, and Bukit Timah residents for the past 40 years. Its menu boasts a selection of mouth-watering dishes such as yam basket, prawn rolls, chili prawns, sliced fish, hotplate venison, bean curd, spring rolls, sotong, hotplate beef, Hokkien mee, fried rice, claypot ee-fu noodles, fried dumplings, their signature kong bak pau and pork ribs. Their dishes include delectable chili prawns, yam basket, prawn rolls, sotong, and hotplate bean curd.

Wildcard Cafe & Bar

If you find yourself near Havelock MRT station, check out Wildcard Cafe & Bar. Located within the renovated Furama Riverfront Hotel on Havelock Road, this charming coffee and wine bar offers a variety of comfort dishes throughout the day. The cafe’s unique atmosphere, creative menu, and nostalgic touches make it a worthwhile destination. Despite its modest size, Wildcard Cafe & Bar is full of character, with a circular bar and various corners providing a slightly different ambiance. Whether you’re looking to relax or grab a quick bite, this cafe is the perfect spot to enjoy a drink and some light fare at any time of day. While the food menu at Wildcard Cafe & Bar is limited, it features a few savory options and daily specials. Separate menus are available for daytime and evening dining. One standout item is the Egg Mayo on Milk Bun, which is incredibly tasty.

Wildseed Café

Nestled on the lower level of the Alkaff Mansion, Wild Seed Café is a charming floral café and patisserie that warmly welcomes pets. With a beautiful conservatory surrounded by lush greenery, Wild Seed provides a delightful space for friends, families, and those with furry companions. The menu offers many brunch options, including ham croissants, chicken pie, butter toast, fluffy pancakes, and twisty fries.

Lee Hong Kee Roasted Meats Tiong Bahru Market

At Lee Hong Kee, customers can choose from roasted meats, including duck, chicken, roast pork, and char siew. They also offer braised eggs and tofu as side dishes. The roasted meats can be enjoyed with either rice or noodles. Opt for a two-person portion of mixed char siew, roasted duck, wanton noodles, and rice. The total cost will come to approximately $16. Lee Hong Kee conveniently accepts CDC vouchers, making it a great place to use them on Mondays when the queue is usually shorter. Located at Tiong Bahru market, Lee Hong Kee Cantonese Roasted is a must-visit.

Goldhill Hakka Restaurant

Goldhill Hakka Restaurant, absent from the Hakka food scene in Singapore for 26 years, returned in 1997. Despite temporarily suspending its operations, this renowned establishment is known for its authentic Hakka cuisine and famous homemade Yong Tau Foo. The restaurant found a new location in a new Upper Changi Road coffee shop. Their latest outlet showcases a perfect blend of tradition and creativity. Customers can look forward to enjoying timeless favorites such as bitter gourd, bean curd skin, and tofu, but with a particular highlight – they are now filled with a chewier and bouncy QQ fish paste sauce.

Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle

If Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle is the only Singapore hawker stall with a Michelin Star in the latest 2022 Singapore Michelin Guide, it could be argued that it is the tastiest bak chor mee in Singapore or even the best hawker food in Singapore, considering the Michelin Guide’s authority on food standards. Previously priced at $5, Hill Street Tai Hwa offers options at $6, $8, and $10. The portion of noodles was ample, with generous toppings of dried fish crisp, minced pork, pork slices, pork balls, and liver slices. All forms of pork are fresh and of premium standards. The crispy fried ti poh sole fish adds an exquisite dried seafood flavor to the noodles made from thin kway teow.

Kim Keat Hokkien Mee

Kim Keat Hokkien Mee, located at Block 92 Toa Payoh Lorong 4 in Singapore, is widely regarded as one of the country’s top 5 Hokkien mee stalls. Despite its small size, this modest stall operated by a couple produces a large quantity of consistently delicious Hokkien mee. The secret to their popularity lies in their cooking style: the noodles are pre-cooked in bulk batches in a big wok, while another wok cooks the noodles to perfection based on customer orders. Also, they have a miniature stove dedicated to heating clay pots. At Kim Keat Hokkien Mee, customers can choose between two types of Hokkien mee. The first type is served on plates and starts at $4, while the second type is served in clay pots and costs $11 for a portion that can serve up to two people.
