As the country adjusts to an aging population, the job market is evolving to welcome the valuable skills and knowledge that seniors bring. This exploration aims to uncover the initiatives, opportunities, and challenges related to senior employment in Singapore, highlighting the importance of tapping into the wealth of experience and expertise seniors offer.
Employment Support for Seniors is a programme supported by Workforce Singapore, and administered by Centre for Seniors (CFS). It provides career advisory and job matching services to senior jobseekers aged 50 and above.Seniors benefit from career advisory services, which assist in establishing job readiness and identifying potential training and career pathways. Additionally, job matching services provide access to meaningful job opportunities offered by forward-thinking organizations, ensuring that seniors can find roles that align with their skills and expertise. To further encourage Singaporeans to take timely action to reskill and upskill to seize opportunities in the future economy, a one-off SkillsFuture Credit top-up of $500 was provided to every Singapore Citizen aged 25 years and above as at 31 December 2020. Furthermore, to improve individuals’ access to career transition programmes, a one-off SkillsFuture Credit of $500 was provided to every Singapore Citizen (SC) aged 40 to 60 (inclusive) as at 31 December 2020. This was in addition to the one-off $500 SkillsFuture Credit top-up for SCs aged 25 and above as at 31 December 2020. This is part of the SkillsFuture Level-Up Programme to strengthen support for mid-career workers. From May 2024, a SkillsFuture Credit (Mid-Career) top-up of $4,000, to further offset out-of-pocket course fees for selected courses that are oriented towards meeting industry and employment needs.
