by | May 27, 2024 | Lifestyle & Wellness, Wellness

Other than detoxification drinks and food, there is also detoxification therapy which flushes away all the toxins and bad stuff in your body through massages and treatments. Detoxification massages enhances the body’s waste/toxins removal process, leading to overall well-being and stronger immunity.

Benefits of detoxification therapies

Detoxification therapies such as the likes of massages help to relax the muscles, promote better blood circulation and as such helps the body to better get rid of the bad stuff. Detoxification therapies can also stimulate the lymphatic system which is vital in boosting one’s immunity.

Whilst massages are generally safe, it is always advisable to consult a healthcare professional on what is safe for oneself, especially if you have underlying medical conditions.

Here are some types of detoxification therapies and massages to consider!

Lymphatic drainage massage

This is a gentle form of massage that focuses on the lymphatic system, which is closely linked to the immune system. It keeps fluids in your body balanced and protects one against infections. Through gentle massages, it promotes the flow of lymph fluids around the body which improves the natural drainage of lymphs

Through promoting blood circulation, this is a great option for senior’s health

  1. Reduce bloating and water retention
  2. Stronger immune system
  3. Healthier skin
  4. Relief of body tensions

Gua Sha

Skin Scraping is also named Gua Sha (pronounced “gwa sha,”) is traditional Chinese practice which uses a smooth edged tool, typically a block of jade to press and gently scrape against the skin. This massage technique removes stagnant “energy” that causes inflammation and low energy levels. Gua Sha is most commonly done on the face, arms, legs and also the back. Though this treatment is generally regarded to be safe, it is always better to consult a healthcare professional first to find out if Gua Sha is suitable for you. For those that are taking medicine for blood clot or if you bruise easily, Gua Sha might not be a suitable option.

  • Boosts immune system
  • Significantly relieves pain
  • Releases muscle tightness, pain and constriction
  • Promotes normal circulation of blood and energy to muscles and organs to dissipate blood stasis

Are these treatments suitable for everyone?

Lymphatic drainage massages and gua sha are generally safe forms of therapy and one should not over worry. However, it is important for seniors with underlying health conditions to first seek advice from the doctor before undergoing this massage. Furthermore, if you’re suffering from an infection, it is best not to undergo this treatment as the infection might spread.

If you ever feel pain at any point in time during the treatment, do sound out and stop the treatment.
